Sat 16 Aug 2014 - Gungahlin Gunners v Yass U11 Redbacks
The U11 Redbacks took on the Gungahlin Gunners at Harrison playing field and it turned out to be a close and exciting match. The Yass team put in a huge effort against strong opposition. The Redbacks took a early lead when some creative forward play saw a tremendous long range kick by Jacob Garner find the back of the net. Gungahlin then began some good attacking raids but the Redbacks defence was solid with Ben Luck and Zoe Tritschler playing some strong soccer. Yass looked certain to score next with some more good shots at goal by Jake Garner and Cal Morgan but they saved by the Gunners keeper. Hamish Hunter was unlucky not to score when a great pass went across the face of goal. Gungahlin were once again pressing towards goal but Ryan Prins was doing at great job as Goal Keeper to deny them. Yass went to the halftime break with only the 1-0 lead. The second half continued in a similar vane as the first with strong tough efforts by both teams . Gungahlin were the next to score to level at 1-1. The Redbacks were digging deep and Noa Planten was playing out of her skin and Casey Tritschler was growing in confidence at Fullback. Cal Morgan, Ryan Prins and Jacob Garner were looking dangerous in attack and it was jacob who managed to score his second of the day for the Redbacks to once again take the lead 2-1. Yass were digging deep once again late in the game and unfortunately a deflection off the back of a Gungahlin boot squeezed past the Yass Goal Keeper to level the score at 2-2. In the dying stages of the match the Redbacks weren't giving up and look certain to score again to seal a win but it wasn't to be. Full time score was Yass Redbacks 2 to Gungahlin Gunners 2. It was a great display of determined soccer by the U11 Redbacks team who had to play the match without any available substitutes players. Well done team.
Sat 9 Aug 2014 - Yass U11 Redbacks v Woden Valley Spurs
The U11 Redback team assembled at sunny Walker park in hope of getting their season back on track after last weeks defeat. Today they were taking on the Woden Valley Spurs and the team was ready for a big effort. The match began with Woden Valley on the attack and Ben Luck was having to save some early shots on goal. The Redback forwards finally got going and were starting to show early signs that this was going to be a close affair. Hamish Hunter and Noa Planten were combing well and this led to Jacob Garner having a couple of good shots at goal but the Woden Keeper was up to the challenge and prevented Yass from taking the lead. The game saw play go up and down the field and both teams were showing their desperation. Yass were so unlucky not to score on several occasions with Bryce Battye's shot sailing over the crossbar. Woden were rewarded for their efforts with a goal just before half time to take the lead. The second half began in much the same style as the first with Yass always looking as if they were going to kick on and win the match. Their lead up play was excellent but just couldn't get the ball into the back of the net . Jacob Garner and Bryce Batye were so unlucky not to score and Hamish Hunter drove one into the post . It just wasn't going to be the Redbacks day. Late in the game it was unfortunate that a deflection off a Yass defender found it's way past the Goal Keeper and a few minutes later Woden scored again as the defence were tiring. The full time whistle sounded and it was Woden Valley Spurs 3 to the Yass Redbacks 0. The score was not a true indication of how well the Yass team played and we are looking forward to next week as our luck is surely about to change.
Sat 2 Aug 2014 - Belsouth Leopards v Yass U11 Redbacks
The U11 Redbacks traveled to Hawker without a match in 6 week and unfortunately had to take on a very strong Belsouth side. Belsouth as predicted started strongly and were continually attacking the Redbacks goal. Yass was under a lot of pressure but the defensive line was up to the challenge with Ben Luck , Zoa Tritschler and Zach Enseileit working strongly together. Cal Morgan was solid as Goal Keeper and had to make some early saves. The Redbacks showed some good skill and determination with Jacob Garner bringing the ball forward to Bryce Battye whose shot on goal was stopped by the Belsouth Keeper . The Yass Redbacks were trying hard to match their well credentialed opponents but eventually Belsouth broke through to score two quick goals before halftime to lead 2-0. The second half began with the Redbacks determined to stay strong in defence but Belsouth were relentless . Max Hansson was doing a fine job as Goal Keeper and the Tritschler twins were matching it with the boys. Unfortunately Belsouth were too strong and managed to score another two goals before the match ended . Ryan Prinns ,Hammish Hunter and Jacob Garner never stoped trying to push down field in attack . Cal Morgan almost scored for Yass when a great pass by Jacob Garner saw him burst forward for a one on one with the Goal Keeper but unfortunately his shot went wide. The final score was Belsouth Leopards 4 to Yass Redbacks 0.
Sat 28 Jun 2014 - Yass U11 Redbacks v Majura Dragons
In extremely unpleasant conditions at Walker Park the U11 Redbacks assembled to take on the Majura Dragons. The Redbacks were missing some key players but that did not deter them. The first half started and you could sense it was going to be a even contest with the play going backwards and forward in slippery conditions. Majura had some strong players up front but the Tritschler twins of Casey and Zoe were determined in defence and Zach Enseleit was having his usual strong game at fullback. The Redbacks started to look dominate with Ryan Prins and Hamish Hunter playing big roles in the midfield and the ever consistant Cal Morgan looking very dangerous down the the right hand side. He was unlucky not to score early with his shot on goal driving into the side
of the net. The forwards of Noa Planten and Bryce Battye were everwhere and were keeping the Majura defence on their toes. Yass were combining well and looked very good in attack. Late in the second half it was Majura who pushed forward and were awarded a corner. The cross managed to squeeze under the gloves of the outstanding goal keeper Ben Luck for the Majura forward to pounce on it and score just before half time to lead 1 goal to 0.
After a pep talk by the coach at half time the Redbacks came out firing. Early attacking raids by the Redbacks resulted in Cal Morgan breaking free and driving the ball past the Midura keeper to level the score at 1-1. Yass continued to apply pressure and it resulted in their second goal when Ryan Prins and Bryce Battye worked the ball forward for Ben Luck to score a excellent goal for Yass to take the lead 2-1. Majura were not giving in and applied continuous pressure on the Yass defence which stood solid with Zach Enseileit's clearing kicks driving the ball deep upfield but unfortunately soon after a ball deflected off a Yass defender and roll into their own net for Majura to level the match at 2 all. The Yass Redbacks were relentless in the last 10
minutes with Bryce Battye having his best game of the season making continuous breaks with Ryan Prins and Ben Luck giving him great support. Yass were finishing strongly with several shots on goal going wide but time ran out for the Redbacks and this excellent match in freezing wet conditions ended in a fair result of Yass Redbacks 2 to Majura Dragons 2.
Well played Yass.
Sat 21 Jun 2014 - Gungahlin Galaxy v Yass U11 Redbacks
After a below average performance the week before the Yass U11 Redbacks bounced back this week to trounce the Gungahlin Galaxy at Harrison playing fields in what could only be called a wonderful display of junior soccer. The game began positively for the Yass team with Ryan Prins and Noa Planten looking menacing in attack with several early scoring opportunities. The Midfielders of Hamish Hunter, Ben Luck and Cal Morgan were controlling the centre of the park when Cal Morgan headed the ball through for Ryan Prins to find the back of the net for the Redbacks to take a 1-0 lead. Gungahlin were trying to get back in the match when a good shot on goal was saved by Jacob Garner who was well supported at the back by Zach Enseleit, Casey Tritschler and Max Hansson.
Yass went to the break only 1 goal ahead but you could sense they were going to be dangerous in the second half and that was certainly the case. Jacob Garner scored early in the second half showing great skill and this was the start of his 4 goal second half romp. His combination with Cal Morgan were tearing apart the Gungahlin defence and the coach was thrilled with what was on display. Jacob's finishing ability was nothing but powerful. Gungahlin to their credit did manage to blast one goal past Zoe Tritschler but never looked like scoring again as the Redbacks were strong in their positional play. Bryce Battye, Max Hansson, Ryan Prins and Hamish Hunter were all creating chances and were unlucky not to score goals themselves.
The fulltime whistle called a end to the game with the Yass Redbacks running out winners 5 goals to 1. It was a superb display of team soccer. Well done team.
Sat 14 Jun 2014 - Yass U11 Redbacks v Canberra Grammar
The U11 Redback team returned to Walker park last Saturday confident of continuing their good form as they have been undefeated in their last 4 matches. Yass were taking on the team from Canberra Grammar and from the first whistle you could sense a tight contest. Yass were first to score through Jacob Garner after good lead up work from Cal Morgan and Ryan Prinns. This spurred Grammar into action and they managed to squeeze the ball past the Redbacks Keeper to even the score at 1 all. Hamish Hunter was very busy in goal making some great saves as Grammar continued to attack. Ben Luck and Zach Enseleit were determined in defence but Canberra Grammar managed to score again just before halftime to go to the break 2-1 up.
The second half began with the coach still confident that we could get back in the match because the Redbacks had not lost a second half all season. The second half was a struggle with both teams maintaining their defensive lines and this created limited opportunities for either side to score. The Yass Redbacks were starting to look tired as their go forward was not as it has been in previous weeks. The team hung in the match for the second half for it to remain scoreless and I'm certain the team can regain their momentum again next week.
The final score was Canberra Grammar 2 to Yass Redbacks 1.
Sat 7 Jun 2014 - Monaro Panthers v Yass U11 Redbacks
The U11 Redbacks travelled to Queanbeyan to take on the Monaro Panthers on a glorious sunny day . The only concern was their depleted line up as 4 players were unavailable due to it being a long weekend. The team were able to recruit the skillful Ewan McAcleer from the U10's team to assist in the matter as Yass were only able to field 8 players. This did not phase the team at all and from the start of play the Redbacks were displaying their dominance with great attacking play from the midfield through to our forwards. The combination from Cal Morgan, Bryce Battye onto the forwards of Jacob Garner and Ewan McAleer was superb. The speed and skill between Jake and Young Ewan had the defence back peddling and after some missed opportunities it was not long before Jacob scored his first for the day.
The Redbacks defence was solid as Monaro were starting to play well. Zach Enseleit was back to his best form and was well supported by Hammish Hunter and Ryan Prins in the defensive line.
The Yass Redbacks put on a fine display of how to pass and play as a team late in the second half with Jacob Garner scoring the next two goals and Ewan McAleer scoring his first goal for the Under 11's. Yass went to the half time break leading 4 goals to nil.
The second half started evenly and it was the Panthers who scored next. This kick started the Redbacks into action and the team ran itself to a standstill displaying their talent. Jake Garner scored next to bring his tally to 4 goals and it was then Zach Enseleit who ventured forward to score his first goal of the season. The determination of young Ewan McAleer was on display when he split the defence to score a wonderful individual goal ,his second of the day. Monaro were hitting back straight away with their second goal and were continuing to attack strongly but Ryan Prins was playing well as goal keeper. The full time whistle finally blew to sound the end of the game which ended up with a final score of Yass Redbacks 7 to Monaro Panthers 2. It was a supreme effort from this Yass team who played one short for the entire match.
Congratulations to you all.
Sat 31 May 2014 - Yass U11 Redbacks v Belwest Panthers
The U11 Redbacks gathered at Walker Park last Saturday hoping to string back to back wins. Their opponents were the Belwest Panthers and from the first whistle it looked as if Yass were determined to have a big game. The Redbacks were pushing the ball forward and were dominant in attack with Hammish Hunter, Bryce Battye and Noa Planten having early chances. Yass finally were rewarded when Jake Garner broke free to put the ball into the back of the net for Yass to lead 1-0.
Belwest started to show that they were going to make it a good game as they were attacking strongly with several shots on goal but Calvin Morgan looked all at home as goal keeper. Ryan Prins playing his first game in the defensive line was showing good determination and skill. The Redbacks went to half time with only the one goal advantage.
The second half began well for the panthers as they quickly equalized with a great shot on goal and the Redbacks knew they had to lift from this point on. Ben Luck, Jake Garner and Cal Morgan were continually combining well and were starting to dominate play. It was then Hammish Hunter's inside pass to Jacob Garner which saw the Redbacks hit the front once again. The Belwest goal keeper was having a whale of a game making good saves on shots on goal from Jake Garner and Cal Morgan.
Bryce Battye was playing well in goal for Yass and Zoe and Casey Tritschler were doing good work in defence. The Redbacks finished stongly with another well deserved goal to Jacob Garner making that three for the afternoon for him.
The final score was Yass Redbacks 3 to Belwest Panthers 1 and this Yass U11's team is showing that it can be a force to be reckoned with in the higher division. Excellent work team.
Sat 24 May 2014 - Yass U11 Redbacks v Gungahlin Gunners
The Yass U11's Redbacks team assembled at Walker Park to take on the Gungahlin Gunners hoping for their first win of the season. Sat 17 May 2014 - Woden Valley Spurs v Yass U11 Redbacks
The U11's Yass Redbacks Travelled to Mawson to take on the Woden Valley Spurs. The match was of a high competitive nature and all the Yass Redbacks played extremely well. The Redbacks were determined not to let the Woden team score and the effort that was witnessed by everyone there was appreciated. The match was a even affair and this resulted in a score line of nil all when the fulltime whistle blew.
This U11 Redbacks team is starting to understand the effort that is required to play in a higher division. Zach Enseileit was brilliant with Ben Luck and Zoe Tritschler giving strong support in defence. Jake Garner, Cal Morgan and Bryce Battye were impressive in attack and this team is not too far away from its first win.
Sat 10 May 2014 - Yass U11 Redbacks v Belsouth Leopards
The Yass U11's Redback team assembled at Walker park for their first home game of the season against the Belsouth Leopards. Yass were once again slow out of the blocks and within 5 minutes the Belsouth team was ahead 2 goals to nil. The Redbacks kicked into gear and began to match their opposition in all departments. The defensive line of Zoe Tristchler, Zach Enseleit and Cal Morgan were more determined and were halting many of the Leopards attacking raids. Ben Luck and Noa Planten were also attacking strongly in the forwards and were unlucky not to score. The half time break came quickly as the match was played a
Yass came out even more determined in the second half with Jacob Garner, Bryce Battye, Ryan Prins and Harmish Hunter starting to push the ball forward and combining well. The Redbacks were starting to dominate across the paddock when Jacob Garner scored a good goal to bridge the gap to 2-1. Yass were then unlucky when Belsouth struck back soon after when the ball squeezed pass the Redbacks goal keeper . Yass never gave up but the full time whistle blew to end the match with Belsouth winning the match 3 goals to 1. A great all round effort by the Yass team and a win is not too far away.

This year the U11's Redback team were promoted to Div 2 after a successful season in 2013. The Redbacks travelled to Kaleen to take on the Belnorth Strikers in cold ,wet conditions. Yass started slowly in a high quality game but the Redbacks were soon behind by 2 goals to nil despite Harmish Hunters big efforts in goal.
As the Redbacks adjusted to the pace of the match Yass had several scoring chances through Noa Planten and Ryan Prins but were unlucky. Unfortunately for Yass the Strikers scored again to go to the break 3 goals to nil up.
The second half saw a more determined display by Yass with Ben Luck and Zac Enseleit strong in defence.
