Sat 5 Sep 2015 - U12 Redbacks v Gungahlin Storm
The mighty U12 Redbacks gathered one last time for this season at a sun blessed Walker Park . We have come to the end of a long road as it is our 16th match of the season and we have been competing since the start of May. Our opponent today were our old foes the Gunghalin Storm . This was the 4th encounter this season against the Storm and Yass had taken the honours on each occasion . As the confirmed premiers of this division and undefeated in all 15 matches prior to today the coach only had one thing to say . " After such a wonderful season, dont go out there and embarrass yourselfs by losing the very last game. Just do what you do best "
From the opening whistle Yass looked a little lethargic and Gungahlin were camped in their attacking zone putting some early pressure on the strong Redback's defensive line . As usual they were not deterred with Zach Enseleit ,Nick Hinds , Zoe and Casey Tritschler as solid as always . Cal Morgan was being trialled at goal Keeper and when he did get possession of the ball his return kicks were deep enough to put the Redbacks on the attack. Ben Luck was settling in with his new role at centre mid and he and Reuben Robinson were hard at work delivering good ball through to the forwards of Mitch Starr and Keegan Doyle. Early shots on goal by Keegan and Reuben were unsuccessful and the Redbacks were being closely marked by the Gungahlin defence . Yass seemed to lack that killer instinct and were cruising along in second gear at this stage. Things improved slightly when Reuben Robinson found a opportunity and space to put the ball into the back of the net to put the Redbacks ahead . Harvey Brine and Colby Owens were putting in big efforts and when Riley Wilson was given a opportunity up front he was showing true determination . Late in the half, Max Hansson found space close to the goal and looked like he had an opportunity to put Yass further ahead but his shot was saved. The Redbacks went to oranges with only the slender one goal advantage and the second half looked as if anything could unfold .
Some words from the coach and the enticement of Ice cream cake if they were to win was all the motivation that was required . The Redback attack looked a little sharper with Cal Morgan and Reuben Robinson Shuffled up to the front and it payed off when Reuben bagged his second for the match to give his team a little breathing space . The Redbacks then focused on their defence with the whole team contributing and the familiar call from the coach of "No goals". Callum Ironside moved to mid field and was playing committed team soccer . Brooklynn Bolton once again looked sensational in attack and looked as if she would score on occassions . Harvey Brine had a chance to play forward and was happy when he had a opportunity to almost score . The strong commitment by this premiership winning team shone out in the end and the Gungahlin team had very little opportunities . Keegan Doyle as the second half goal keeper only touched the ball once and this possibly is a result from a team that has only leaked 5 goals in all season . The referee blew the full time whistle to end the match and the season for a talented and well respected group of young players that completed 16 matches without defeat . Yass Redbacks 2 goals defeated Gungahlin Storm 0.
We then reflected on our achievements whilst we sat quietly and devoured two Freddo Frogs Icecream cakes that the coach promised half way through the season if we could win the tiltle.
Congratulations once again to the Premiers of the U12 division . Sounds good I do believe .
Sat 29 Aug 2015 - U12 Redbacks v Woden Valley Thunder
The Yass U12 Redbacks team gathered at a sunny Walker park for what was declared as the match of the season against the strong Woden Valley Thunder side. This clash was a match up of the two top teams in the competition with the last encounter ending in a strongly contested 2 all draw. The Redbacks had already wrapped up the premiership but the coach decided not to tell the players this and it was talked up as the grand final and a must win situation.
As expected the match started as a tight and closely fought encounter but the Yass Redbacks looked composed and in control . The first 10 minutes saw the Redbacks camped amongst the Thunder defense who were heavily marking our forwards . The Yass backs had the first scoring opportunity when a well taken corner sat up for Keegan Doyle but his shot just went high. The play sea-sawed up and down the field and the Yass defence were hard at work doing what they have done well all season . Zach Enseleit was superb in defence ,with Casey and Zoe Tritschler giving him great support . The girls were playing with a lot of determination. Callum Ironside was also impressive when switched from midfield and put back in defence. Big Nick Hinds was covering well although he did give his coach some early nervous moments . Nick soon got back his rhythm and played a excellent game defensively. Ben Luck at goal keeper was playing very well as we expect but he was hardly challenged. As the first half progressed the Thunder was really putting it to the Redbacks and the strong mid field pairing of Reuben Robinson and Cal Morgan were putting in exceptional efforts trying to control the centre of the park . Riley Wilson , Colby Owen , Harvey Brine and Brooklynn Bolton were contributing in their given roles keeping the pressure on the Woden team with their attack and defence . As the game approached half time it was evident that the forwards of Mitch Starr and Keegan Doyle were putting in the effort but were being solidly marked by the defence and it was difficult to break free . The half time whistle blew and the team knew they had a match on their hand.
After some words of wisdom and some slight adjustments to the game plan the Redbacks went back onto the field determined that the next 30 minutes would be rewarding.
The Redbacks started the 2nd half with a little more zest with none more impressive than Brooklynn Bolton who showed her talented footwork often . Cal and Reuben then started to deliver good long balls to the forwards. The next 15 minute was still a intense encounter and you could sense a breakthrough was not far away for the Redbacks . A determined cross from Reuben Robinson almost found the outstretched foot of Mitch Starr . Shortly after a lovely chip towards goal from Calvin Morgan almost ended with a score when Keegan Doyle attempted header barely missed. The Yass defence was absolutely wonderful and continually snuffed out the Woden Valley attack.
Then the moment the coach was waiting for took place . The ball moved forward and found space for Keegan to break through and head up field and to the delight of all concerned he carefully steered his shot past the Woden keeper for the Redbacks to finally take the lead 1 goal to nil. The Thunder had by no means given in and were continually trying to get back in the contest .With 12 minute left on the clock the Redbacks still had a long way to go but defensively they were all contributing . The Thunder had by no means given in and were continually trying to level the score. At the 55 minute mark of the match the Redbacks once again showed how they have been successful all season with a penetrating ball that found both Reuben and Mitch who combined to take the ball up field and it was Mitchell Starr that had the honour of driving the ball into the back of net to basically seal victory for the Redbacks.
The final minutes seemed to take forever but the final whistle sounded to end a wonderful display of junior soccer by both team and the Yass Redbacks U12 could be declared the Undefeated Premiers of their division . They were greeted with loud applause by all the parents ,supporter and spectators who appreciated their performance today and throughout the entire season .
Yass Redbacks 2 goals defeated Woden Valley Thunder 0 . Congratulation team, you made me very proud.

The U12 Redbacks assembled at Waramanga playing fields in warm and blustering conditions to take on Weston Molonglo. The Redbacks began with composure as they knew with 3 matches left in the season they are very close to securing the premiership. Keegan Doyle and Mitch Starr were applying early pressure in attack but the Weston defence was tight . Reuben Robinson was heavily marked but causing Havoc and Cal Morgan's booming kicks put extra pressure on the Weston defence. The Redback's defence had moments of being pressured but as usual Zach Enseleit was up for the occasion and nullified the attack . He was well supported by Nick Hinds , and the Tritschler twins Casey and Zoe. .Ben Luck was superb as usual as goal keeper and his clearance kicks were deep, putting his team straight on the attack. The Redbacks scored when the in form Keegan Doyle found the back of the goal in fine fashion . This kick started things and the Redbacks were unlucky not to score after Cal Morgan sent a great cross to the forwards who were snuffed out by the many Weston defenders . Minutes later the Redbacks looked dangerous and Keegan send a ball across to Mitch Starr who finished it off nicely for Yass to take a 2-0 lead . The Weston Monloglo team then went up field and broke through the defence to score against the run of play . This did not effect this mighty team as Keegan Doyle showed once again his goal scoring ability with a wonderful shot that sailed past the outreached Weston goal keeper to give his team a little more breathing space as we went to halftime 3-1 up.
The second half got underway with the Redbacks now contending with the strong breeze in their face and looking like the champion team they are.
Riley Wilson ,Colby Owens ,Max Hansson were determined in their efforts . Each time the ball found Brooklynn Bolton she looked dangerous.

Cal Morgan delivered a ball that hovered above the goal for Mitch Starr to show once again his ability to finish off well to bag his second for the afternoon. The Redbacks had wonderful moments in attack and defence with Reuben Robinson who never stopped trying. A special mention to Casey Tritschler who is the most improved member of the team. She was strong and reliable in defence all afternoon .When the referee blew the whistle it ended another fine display from this talented team . The Yass Redbacks 5 goals defeated Weston Molonglo

The Marist side were constantly attempting to get back into the game but the Redbacks defence was strong as Zach Enseleit and Casey Tritschler were at the top of their game. Ben Luck was as reliable as ever as the Redbacks goal keeper. At stages the Redbacks were relentless and Keegan proved his worth to the team with another powerful goal before halftime . Yass went to oranges leading 3-0 .
The second half began and it was a surprise when against the run of play the Marist forward broke free and blasted the ball into the goal to narrow the score to 3-1 with 20 minutes to play . This was only the 4th goal conceded by the Redbacks all season . Defensive patterns were tightened and Nick Hinds , Zoe Tritschler and Callum Ironside were not going to allow that to happen again . Reuben Robinson pushed forward in attack and this payed dividends as he was next to score for the Redbacks to give them a 3 goal buffer once again . Brooklynn Bolton , Colby Owen and Harvey Brine were trying hard in the midfield . The Marist goal Keeper was very busy late in the game and made some excellent saves but after a poor goal kick it was Reuben who pounced on it to score his
second goal for the half . The Redback attacking players were having
an excellent day as the fulltime whistle sounded to complete another good victory to the U12 team .

The U12 Redbacks assembled at Harrison playing fields for the start of
the 2015 season. This year the team has gained nine new players , some
who have never played the Winter competition before.
Yass began strongly with all the team playing to its structure and some
excellent attacking raids saw early shots on goal by Keegan Doyle and
Mitchell Starr just going wide of the net.
The Redbacks were now starting to control the midfield with Calvin
Morgan and Reuben Robinson showing great skill and determination in
getting the play to constantly move forward . It was Keegan Doyle who
scored the first goal of the season for Yass to take the lead . The
Gungahlin team pushed up field and a heavy tackle saw them awarded a
penalty shot but the Goal Keeper Ben Luck saved it all too easy. Ben
was excellent as Keeper for the entire match.
The Redbacks were starting to outplay their opponents and the efforts of
Colby Owen and Brooklyn Bolton were a highlight . Great lead up work by
the team saw Keegan bag another two goals before half time for Yass to
lead 3-0 .
The second half was similiar to the first with the Redbacks in control .
As fatigue set in Yass missed some good opportunities to add to the
total until Bryce Battye found himself in good position to score his
first for the season. Zach Enseileit was strong in defence as expected
. Harvey Brine , Riley Wilson and Nic Hinds were proving valuable
acquisitions for the team . The Tritschler girls Zoe and Casey
alongside Callum Ironside were solid in defence and will only get better
as the season progresses.
A great effort by all the team in their first game together. Final score
Yass Redbacks 4 to Gungahlin Storm 0.
