Match Reports

Sat 29 Jun 2013 - Yass Under 11's v Majura Real

The Davis Fencing U11’s had a great game today showing better teamwork and an improved passing game. They all held positions well and are showing great progress so far this season.

The game got off to a good start with Megan Kemp continually pushing the ball forward to Will Pettigrew to put early pressure on the Majura side. Jack Gallagher played another brilliant game in the mid-field covering a lot of ground and helping maintain Yass’s possession of the ball. A strong backline in Corey Mann, Ben Thornley and Angus Hunter supported Rhiannon Davis in goals but it was Ben Thornley in the Centre Back position who proved the best obstruction keeping his eye on loitering Majura forwards and clearing the ball easily. Brynn Skelton was the first to find the back of the net showing his speed and footwork to get the ball past the keeper. Despite good play by the Yass team, Majura answered with a goal of their own fairly quickly leaving the half=time score at 1-1.

Yass went into the second half fairly confident and it showed as they maintained their attack with Corey Mann in the right position to pick up a rebound off the Majura keeper after another attempt by Jack and Brynn to put Yass at 2-1. Caitlin Witt shows great improvement each week and had a good game in defence. Charlie Bush, playing keeper in the second half had to put his body on the line to keep Majura from scoring again, this was after a strong game in Centre–Mid position. Brynn, Megan and Angus upped the attack on the Majura side and Brynn was eventually rewarded with Yass’s third goal.

Megan Kemp was voted Players Player and Ben Thornley, Jack Gallagher and Angus Hunter were standout players for the side. The final score was 3-1 to the Yass Redbacks.

Sat 22 Jun 2013 - Marist v Yass Under 11's

The Davis Fencing U11’s dominated play against Marist early with Brynn Skelton pushing forward to take a couple of early shots on goal. Corey Mann and Aden Nasralla showed strength in the midfield with Jack Gallagher holding the Centre Back position in his 100th game for the Yass Football Club. Bringing Will Pettigrew onto the field as left forward proved the right decision as he was in perfect position to receive a cross from Brynn and chip the ball in over the head of the Marist keeper. Marist then upped the pressure on the Yass defence but Rhiannon Davis and Jack Gallagher proved their usual unbeatable combination and didn’t allow Marist near the Yass goal which was being defended with great skill by keeper, Ben Thornley. Midfielder Charlie Bush and defender Angus Hunter then started to push the ball forward to Brynn allowing him to put a second goal past the Marist goalie.

The second half allowed Charlie Bush and Caitlin Witt to challenge the Marist defence but it was Rhiannon that was open to receive a cross from Brynn to score the Redbacks third goal. The team relaxed their attacking game after this but this only allowed Jack, Ben and Angus to show a superb defensive game. Further good footwork by Charlie Bush allowed Brynn to score the fourth goal for the team. The entire team played a great game with Aden Nasralla being voted Players Player. Standout players were Rhiannon Davis, Brynn Skelton, Will Pettigrew and Jack Gallagher. The fulltime score was 4-0 to the Davis Fencing U11 Redbacks.
