Sat 31 Aug 2013 - Yass Under 16's v Brindabella Blues Falcons
A sleepy performance from the James Alley Carpentry sponsored under 16 Redbacks was enough for them to score a comfortable win over the Brindabella Falcons to the tune of 9-1.
After leading by only 2-0 at halftime, the Redbacks found another gear to quickly put the game beyond doubt, much to the relief of their supporters. Main destroyer of the Falcons was striker Brendon Scanes who conjured up 5 goals while Robby Furner positioned himself well to claim 3 goals and Brad Nielson chipping in with 1 goal.
Best on the field was Sam Young with Lauren Malan, Brendon Scanes, Hayden Starr and Robby Furner all putting in strong performances.
The Redbacks now only need to defeat ladder cellar dwellers Tuggeranong next week to secure their first premiership.
Sat 10 Aug 2013 - St Edmunds v Yass Under 16's
In an eventful clash with St Edmunds, the James Alley Carpentry under 16 Redbacks had to pull out all stops in the 2nd half to claw their way back from a 0 -2 deficit at half time, to earn a 2 all draw.
A lacklustre effort from the Yass side in the first 45 minutes allowed a spirited opponent to open up a 2 nil lead, mainly due to poor defence. With the wind at their back after the break, a 2 goal burst from Robby Furner got Yass back in the match. Despite getting back on level terms within 15 minutes of the 2nd half commencing, the Redbacks had many chances to take the game away from St Edmunds but an uneven playing surface, lack of control close to goal and a good keeper kept Yass off the scoresheet.
To their credit, the Redbacks showed much more commitment in the 2nd half, with captain Brendon Scanes leading his troops from the front, Robby Furner showed good skills to score his 2 goals while Tim Hazell and Brad Nielson produced many good plays to get the ball forward. With Darcy Coughlan confined to the field due to his broken finger, Rob Furner and Cameron Hill kept well in goal.
Sat 3 Aug 2013 - Yass Under 16's v Marist
What a game! The James Alley Carpentry under 16 Redbacks took on Marist in a top of the table clash and the game didn't disappoint. The teams traded goals throughout the match, each time Marist edged ahead Yass would fight back to match them.
It was a very exciting game to watch with plenty of spectacular soccer action. Marist went to the break with a 1-0 lead but Nick Pilbrow equalised for Yass with a sensational lob shot over the keepers' head. In a frantic final 20 minutes Marist twice hit the lead only to be pegged back each time by goals from Brendon Scanes.
Even though the Redbacks were outplayed when on the ball, their courage, tenacity and defensive skills kept them in the game. Hero on the day was Darcy Coughlan who, playing with a broken finger, made at least 4 super saves to deny Marist victory. Other players to shine for Yass were Hayden Starr, Richard Alley, Luke McReynolds, Nick Pilbrow and Tim Hazell.
Sat 27 Jul 2013 - Canberra Grammar Navy v Yass Under 16's
The James Alley Carpentry under 16 Redbacks returned to the field following the break for school holidays andput in a very strong team effort to down the gritty Grammar Navy side 8 - 3.
Not for the first time this season, the skill and pace of Brendon Scanes was a major difference between the 2sides. Brendon dominated the opposing defence every time the ball came his way, scoring 5 of his teams goals. The lead up to some of Brendon's goals were ably assisted by some wonderful passes from Rob Furner, Tim Hazell and Brad Nielson. Brad scored 2 goals of his own, 1 from an unselfish pass from Rob. The teams' other goal was scored by Sam Young who was Johnny on the spot to pounce on a keeper fumble.
At the other end of the field the defence of keeper Darcy Coughlan, Lauren Malan, Richard Alley and Luke McReynolds thwarted many of Navy's attacks. Every player played well and contributed to this important win.

A depleted James Alley Carpentry under 16 Redbacks side finished off the first round of the competition in style with a convincing 14-0 win over Tuggeranong.
A flurry of goals in the first ten minutes of each half set up the big win, with goalscorers being Brendon Scanes 7, Brad Nielson 3, Darcy Coughlan 3 and Sam Young 1. Brendon, Brad and Darcy constantly menaced the opposition defence, setting the Yass attack in motion with their clever passing, while Kris Hansson and Luke McReynolds at the back ensured Tuggeranong remained scoreless.
Sun 23 Jun 2013 - Yass Under 16's v Brindabella Blues Eagles
On Saturday the James Alley Carpentry under 16 Redbacks scored a comfortable win over the Brindabella Falcons in bleak conditions at Calwell.
Yass jumped to an early lead and never looked like being seriously challenged. Goals came at regular intervals with talented striker Brendon Scanes scoring 5 goals, and 1 each to Tim Hazell, Brad Nielson, and Adam Minary Bland.
Today we welcomed back the services of Lauren Malan and Adam Minary Bland who have been away overseas, and both played strongly. Others to play well for Yass were Brendon Scanes, Brad Nielson, Richard Alley and Sam Young.
Sat 22 Jun 2013 - Brindabella Blues Falcons v Yass Under 16's
The James Alley Carpentry under 16 Redbacks showed plenty of character and commitment to down a tough Brindabella Eagles side in their postponed game last Sunday.
It was a very even contest throughout but Yass produced several flashes of brilliance to break the deadlock. During the first half hour the Redbacks were under siege but Hayden Starr, Brad Nielson, Kris Hansson, Luke McReynolds and Darcy Coughlan continually turned the Eagles attack away.
Suddenly the tide turned and Yass surged downfield with Tim Hazell slipping a great pass to Brad Nielson who produced an equally good shot at goal to open the scoring for Yass. Shortly after Tim, Brad and Brendon Scanes combined for Brendon to score and make the half time score 2-0.
In the second half the midfield worked overtime to try and gain control of the flow of play with Sam Young, Lauren Malan, Richard Alley, Adam Minary-Bland, Nick Pilbrow and Jayson Young all producing tireless efforts. Yass' final goal was instigated by Jayson who popped a ball through to Tim who chipped a bouncing ball past the keeper.
Sat 8 Jun 2013 - Canberra Grammar Sky v Yass Under 16's
The James Alley Carpentry under 16 Redbacks played an undermanned Grammar Sky and racked up 22 goal to one. Even though the scoreline was not pretty, Grammar never gave up and made Yass work for every goal. Goal scorers for the Redbacks were Brendon Scanes an incredible 11, 2 goals each to Tim Hazell, Sam Young, Darcy Coughlan, and Hayden Starr and 1 goal to Nick Pilbrow, Kris Hansson and a jubilant Richard Alley.
Highlight of the day was a scorching drive by Tim Hazell from 20 metres out to score one of his goals and earn the tag 'best goal of the season' so far.
Best players for Yass were Brendon Scanes, Hayden Starr, Sam Young, Richard Alley and Tim Hazell.
Sat 1 Jun 2013 - Yass Under 16's v St Edmunds
On a very wet and slippery Saturday afternoon at Walker Park, the James Alley Carpentry under 16's mastered the conditions better than St Edmunds to come away 5-0 winners.
After an initial period of both sides getting used to the conditions, Brad Nielson combined with Brendon Scanes to open the scoring for Yass. The Redbacks scored again shortly after when Tim Hazell threw a great long throw in to Brendon who guided the ball past the keeper.
Brendon's skill was proving a handful and he was at it again just before half time when his long curving shot at goal squeezed through the keepers hands to take Yass to the break at 3-0.
With the conditions worsening in the 2nd half sustained attacks were difficult to mount, and being in defence was an arkward assignment. However, Richard Alley, Luke McReynolds and Kris Hansson stopped everything that came their way and Darcy Coughlan made several good saves in goal.
Despite the weather, the Redbacks finished with a flurry with Brad and Brendon scoring in the last 5 minutes to make the final score 5-0.
Sat 25 May 2013 - Marist v Yass Under 16's
The James Alley Carpentry under 16 Redbacks travelled to Pearce last Saturday to tackle last years’ premiers Marist and the game didn't disappoint the fans on hand to cheer on their team. It was a heart stopper with the match in the balance right up to the final siren.
The Redbacks opened strongly dominating possession to notch 2 goals to Brad Nielson and 1 to Tim Hazell, whilst Marist replied with a goal from a penalty outside the box.
After outplaying Marist in the early stages of the match to create a lead, the Redbacks temporarily relaxed and allowed the Marist strikers far too much space, letting them back into the match with 2 soft goals.
To their credit Yass lifted and produced a gutsy second half effort led by Hayden Starr, Sam Young and Richard Alley to firstly go ahead 4-3 and then hold off a determined Marist. The winning goal was set up by Brendon Scanes who beat several defenders before passing to Tim Hazell who finished nicely.
Sat 18 May 2013 - Yass Under 16's v Canberra Grammar Navy
A whole hearted team effort paved the way for the James Alley Carpentry under 16's to score a hard fought win over a well drilled Grammar Navy side.
The Redbacks superior passing in attack proved the difference with the goal scorers taking their chances each time to forge to a 3-0 lead at half time. The first goal was scored by Robby Furner after Brendon Scanes had pushed a perfect through ball to Tim Hazell who crossed it in to Robby who made no mistake. This was a well deserved goal as Robby was playing his 100th game for the Club today. Well Done Robby.
Tim and Brendon exchanged passes for Brendon to score our next goal, and then Brad Nielson laid on a nice pass for Sam Young to score.
The second half was a more dogged affair with only Sam breaking the defensive deadlock to take the score to 4-0.
There were many fine performances for the Redbacks but Tim stood out in attack with Cameron Hill and Hayden Starr outstanding in defence.
Sat 4 May 2013 - Yass Under 16's v Brindabella Blues Falcons
The Yass Soldiers Club sponsored under 16 Redbacks kicked off their 2013 season with a convincing win over the Brindabella Falcons to the tune of 8 - 3.
The game was barely 15 minutes old and Yass had dashed to a 4 - 0 lead through goals to Brendon Scanes (2), Tim Hazell and Brad Nielson. With the game in their keeping, the Redbacks continued to apply pressure which resulted in goals to Cameron Hill just before half time, and another goal to Tim and 2 to Brendon in a more even second half.
The dream start to the season was delivered by holding possession and creative passing by our midfielders Tim Hazell, Richard Alley, Brad Nielson, Nick Pilbrow, Cameron Hill, Jayson Young and Adam Minary Bland. They created plenty of chances for our strikers Robby Furner and Brendon.
When called upon our defence was very good, with Hayden Starr leading the way and was ably assisted by Luke McReynolds, Kris Hansson and Darcy Coughlan in goal.
Our newcomers to the team this year Nick Pilbrow, Cameron Hill and Kris Hansson all played strongly and fitted into the team structure easily.
